Originally established as a guest house in the mid-20th century, Hylands has welcomed guests from all walks of life, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Our archives reveal glimpses into the past, such as photographs from the 1960s showcasing original window designs in Apartment 2, and images from the early 1970s capturing the property’s classic architecture.
Recent Enhancements and Current Ownership
In recent years, Hylands has experienced a renaissance under the stewardship of Hyland’s owners, Lance and Keith, who have resided on the premises for over a decade, dedicated to providing a welcoming atmosphere for all guests and restoring Hyland’s to it’s absolute best. Their vision has led to numerous enhancements, including:
- Exterior Revitalization: The main house received a fresh coat of paint in 2022, rejuvenating its classic façade and ensuring it stands as a proud landmark in Teignmouth.
- Accessibility Improvements: Apartment 2 underwent extensive renovations, including a new roof, window installations, and interior upgrades to the shower room and kitchen. The entrance door was repositioned to enhance wheelchair accessibility, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: The car park and driveway were resurfaced with new gravel and marked spaces in January 2022, improving accessibility and convenience for our guests.
